Earth Day

What an awesome week it has been for us!

Started off with being invited to a reggae band concert in downtown Boulder. We have never really heard of SOJA but WOW

what an amazing life-changing experience. The atmosphere in that tiny theater was incredible && the performance of both Dustin Thomas & SOJA was one of the best I’ve seen. We even got to chat with Dustin for a bit after the concert & he came from the Midwest, just like us! Their music talks about political problems and what is wrong with our society and world we live in. SOJA said that they’re coming to Iowa soon & we’re supposed to get all of you pumped for them!

Now, yesterday was the fabulous EARTH DAY! Kolin & I headed to downtown Denver to check out an Earth Day Fair in the park then headed over to the Denver Botanical Garden that was free admission for the holiday!

We ended the day watching Cowspiracy and I hope anyone who is even somewhat interested, to check it out. You can purchase it for only $1 for the rest of the week here.

Everyone knows in the back of their mind that the factory farming of animals for our consumption is pretty scary. Humans are weird like that, we know animals are being mistreated, fed nasty things, raised inhumanely, and we choose to block out ALL those thoughts while at the grocery store. It makes us feel uncomfortable and we choose to not attach ourselves to this problem. The environmental impact due to our animal consumption is devastating. We’ve learned a lot about factory farming at my work and the pros of grass-fed animals. But I did always wonder if ALL animals were grass-fed the correct way, would we have enough space in our country for all that land? I finally found the answer in Cowspiracy, which is no, we wouldn’t. Unless we tore down neighborhoods & cities just so we can eat the same amount of meat we eat now.

I’ll stop ranting, but I suggest even the most insane meat-eaters to check this video out. It may make you uncomfortable & a little angry because it’s not what you’ve learned in school. But it is something that needs to be talked about.

I have decided I am going to try to go vegetarian! (Round 2). I tried once over a year ago and it lasted about….a week. If even. I did it spur of the moment, no laid out reasons to why I’m doing it. And I hardly did any research of recipes/meal ideas so of course I didn’t last long. But this time I plan to do my homework and get serious. I’ve always thought about doing it again but haven’t really had the push until seeing this movie. If someone else can do it, so can I! The only meat I really eat is chicken (but I do eat it A LOT, mmm, wings <3) BUT, it’s about me growing as a person and thinking about the big picture; the future of our planet & the species on it.

We hear about these awful things of factory farms, abused animals fed nasty things (antibiotics, by-product meals, etc – which goes into our body), ruining our environment, and I choose to still pay them money to eat their meat. It’s insane.  Also, I hope writing this in my blog will give me more motivation & not give up. I have grown a LOT in the past year so I believe in myself this time. Kolin’s just gotta stop offering me wings & bacon 😉

Anyways, that’s all for today. Quite a spiritual & growing week, which is all I can ask for! 🙂

until next time,

I completely agree with the whole eating meat thing. I absolutely love meat but I’m hoping that when the time is right I can turn vegetarian at some point in my life.
Beautiful photos of Denver by the way!
